TANZER, MARVIN JEROME; Lived a very full life for 97 years that sadly came to an end on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Edith and Harry Tanzer, Marvin was an only child. His family moved to Pittsburgh where Marvin completed his studies in accounting at the University of Pittsburgh. Coming to Pittsburgh proved to fortuitous  because Pittsburgh is where he met Joan Price, who became his wife in 1946. Joan and Marvin celebrated 65 years of marriage before Joan predeceased him. Together, Joan and Marvin raised three children, Tommy (Joanne), Peter (Susan) and Debbie (Hal). Often known as the "Mayor of Shadyside", Marvin was the owner of Alan Price, a third generation women's retail store, in which he and Joan worked together. Though a quiet man, Marvin had a love of travel, sports (especially the Steelers and the Pirates), dancing and his family. He was most proud of his grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua (Lizzie), Michael, Lexie (Daniel) and Liza. All the grandchildren were very devoted to their Papa. Marvin was very proud of his service in the US Army and the grandchildren loved hearing stories from Marvin about his experiences during WWII. Though the past six months had been difficult for Marvin, he enjoyed the company of his caregivers; Joe Blume, William Stewart, Char Hardin and Shari Nowlin. These people were not only caregivers but special friends to Marvin and the family. Their time and care have been so appreciated. Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Friday at 3 PM. Visitation one hour prior to services (2 - 3 PM). Interment West View Cemetery of Rodef Shalom Congregation. Contributions may be made to Charles Morris Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 200 JHF Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15217 or National Multiple Sclerosis Society of America, Keystone Chapter, 1501 Reedsdale Street, Suite #105, Pittsburgh, PA 15233. www.schugar.com
