Luisa Cynthia Hortencia Porras

October 25, 2026

Luisa Porras, beloved restaurateur, entrepreneur, and cherished friend, passed away on Wednesday, October 25.

Born in Lima, Peru, Luisa led a remarkable life shaped by her love of travel, art, culture, and, above all, the people she held dear. During her youth, she studied and traveled around the world after coming to the United States to attend Miss Hall's School, a private preparatory school. She later graduated from Bradford College.

Luisa's adventurous spirit and passion for Peruvian culture led her to London in the 1970s, where she opened Inca, a shop specializing in Peruvian folk art and clothing. It was there that she achieved international recognition when she sold Princess Diana the now-famous sweater she wore in her engagement portrait, bringing Luisa and her distinctive eye for Peruvian artistry into the international spotlight.

After 25 years in London, Luisa made her home in Pittsburgh, where she founded La Feria Peruvian Restaurant and Folk Art in Shadyside in 1993. La Feria became a reflection of her deep love for her Peruvian heritage, offering a warm and welcoming place to experience the country's cuisine, art, and culture. Luisa devoted herself to the restaurant for many years before retiring in 2020, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Pittsburgh's dining and cultural community.

While Luisa's accomplishments took her around the world, her greatest joy was sharing life with friends and family. She loved to socialize, bring people together, and celebrate the connections that made life meaningful. Her warmth, vibrant personality, and generous spirit touched the lives of many, and she will be remembered not only for what she created, but for the friendships and memories she leaves behind.

Luisa was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Alf. She is survived by her sister, Carolina, in Peru; her life partner, Pam; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral service or viewing. Luisa will be laid to rest in Peru, returning to her homeland to be reunited with her family.

Luisa's life was one of adventure, accomplishment, and enduring friendships. She will be lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
