October 14, 2026
SANDRA BENNETT RUTTENBERG: Sandra Bennett Ruttenberg's remarkably upbeat life began in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on January 31, 1936. Born to Berdie Platt Bennett and Sol Bennett, Sandra's early years were shaped by her parents, who laid the foundation for a life defined by kindness, talent, and integrity. A proud graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School, Sandra went on to the University of Pittsburgh, and soon thereafter married Arnold Ruttenberg. They produced four children. Years later, Sandra forged a successful career as a realtor, where she became a distinguished and consistent member of the Million Dollar Club. Her professional achievements are a testament to her dedication and skill, but it was her artistry as a world-class pianist that truly set her apart. Her innate ability to immediately comprehend acoustical properties of any room or venue was nothing short of brilliant. With impeccable musicianship and a refined, delicate touch, Sandra could hear any piece of music and reproduce it with admirable accuracy. She was fond of having played in several countries, and once while in the Czech Republic, conductor Herbert Von Karajan heard her on piano and complimented her style. Other notable pianists were also impressed by her and that includes Grammy winner Makoto Ozone & multi Grammy winner, composer/arranger John Beasley.
Sandra's life was enriched by her family, whom she cherished deeply. She is survived by her sister June Shapiro of Boca Raton. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arnold Ruttenberg, and her sisters, Dorothy, Bernice, and Ruth. Her legacy continues through her devoted children, Carol Joyce (Gary Huffines), Susan (Craig) Macbeth, Richard D. Ruttenberg, and Shelley (Thomas) Petro. Sandra cherished deeply her grandchildren, Jessica, Jared, Josh, Russell, and Rachel. Her utter joy was magnified by her adorable great-grandchildren, Madison, Jack, Sawyer, Sophie, and Rugby the dog, all of whom brought immense pride and happiness into her life.
Often thought of as "Earth Mother" to all, Sandra was a beacon of acceptance and warmth. She had an unwavering respect for people of all backgrounds and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Her ability to embrace diversity and show genuine kindness made her an adored figure in the lives of many.
There will be a private funeral ceremony. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to Sandra's care and well-being. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Sandra's memory may consider making a donation to a charity of their choice.
Sandra left this world from home, a promise made and kept by the family. Caring for their mother is the most worthwhile thing they will ever have done. The family takes comfort in knowing that Sandra looks forward to a heavenly reunion with her mother, Berdie. She often spoke of her beloved mother and wanted all along to return to her. The family sends her off with love and prayers, confident that the celestial music that awaits will be all the more beautiful with Sandra's presence. We are certain almighty G-d will welcome her happily and find her to be a most lovely, entertaining and interesting soul. We love and adore you Mama.
