Shonberg, Sidney L:  Age 91, of Weinberg Village, died peacefully on February 21.  Beloved brother, uncle, and dear friend and neighbor, Mr. Shonberg was a native of Indiana, PA, where he managed the women's clothing business Town & Country for more than 40 years.  He also was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served as a medic during World War II on Enewetak Island in the South Pacific.  Mr. Shonberg was a longtime member of Temple Sons of Israel Synagogue in DuBois, PA, where he lived for several years before moving to Pittsburgh with his sister, Rita Shonberg Begler, who pre-deceased him. "Uncle Sidney" was a true original; a wit and a tease; and a lover of tall tales.  He also was an avid walker and bird lover and in later years he became a regular volunteer at Animal Friends.  Uncle Sidney was lovingly imitated and frequently roasted by his many nieces, nephews, and members of the youngest generation-all of whom he loved unconditionally.  He could insult a cook with a tender smile and frown, all while devouring an entire cherry tart or a huge bowl of grits at one sitting.  At family gatherings he was known to eat his fill and then retire to the living room floor, napping peacefully through even the noisiest Thanksgiving festivities. Mr. Shonberg's reputation as a fine haberdasher resulted from his and Rita's decades of buying trips to New York, where he loved to stay at the Edison Hotel after long days in the Garment District. While living at Weinberg Village he was the man wearing the Indiana Jones hat, who recited the Gettysburg Address, danced spontaneously-even in later years when he was using a walker-and became known as an ambassador of good will. Mr. Shonberg was preceded in death by his parents, Morris Shonberg and Molly Charlson Shonberg; his sister, Gloria Shonberg Bunshaft (Late Henry); brother Irving Shonberg; and sister Rita Shonberg Begler (Late Paul).  He is survived by his sister-in-law, Emily Shonberg, wife of Irving; nieces and nephews, including Ann Begler (Jude), Arnold Begler (Sandra), David Begler (Kathleen), David Shonberg (Kayla), Barbara Shonberg (Bob), and Mark Shonberg (Sherry), and Cindy Shonberg; and loving great-nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by his extended family member and devoted caregiver Latoya Jones. Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue on Thursday at 10 AM. Visitation one hour prior to services (9 - 10 AM). Interment will follow at 12 Noon in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana, PA. Friends will be received at Weinberg Village, 300 JHF Drive, Pittsburgh, PA  15217, on Friday and Sunday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Contributions may be made to Jewish War Veterans Allegheny Co., 7567 Penn Bridge Ct., Pittsburgh, PA 15221 or Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Road, Pittsburgh , PA 15237. www.schugar.com
