RUTH SURLOFF FINEBERG: Of Squirrel Hill, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the age of 96. Ruthie was the beloved wife of the late Irwin Fineberg for 45 years. She is survived by her children, Sharon (Steven) Schwartz, Elizabeth Fineberg (Bruce Shackleton) of Wayland, MA, and Abe (Amy) Fineberg of Montville, NJ. Ruthie was a cherished Bubbe to Laura (Dave) Dayan, Marla (Ben) Pourrabbani, Leah Shackleton (Chris Wear), Emily Shackleton, Sarah Shackleton (Warren Howe), and Jared Fineberg, and a loving G.G. to Nathan, Simon, Ian, Ava, Rebecca, and Madelyn. Ruthie was also dearly loved by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her siblings, Evelyn and Cliff Surloff, as well as her sister-in-law, Sema Fineberg.

Ruth was a passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins, and enjoyed swimming, golf, and playing mahjong, bridge, and canasta with family and friends. A skilled cook, Ruthie took great pride in preparing traditional Jewish dishes passed down from her mother, Rebecca, as a way to nourish and express her love for her family.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff, aides, and nurses at Weinberg Terrace, as well as the Sivitz Hospice team, for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Ruth during her final months. Donations in Ruth's memory can be made to a charity of your choice.

Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 11 AM. Visitation one half hour prior to services (10:30 AM - 11 AM). Interment Beth Shalom Cemetery. www.schugar.com

Condolences

Send Condolence

Sharon, Abe, and Elizabeth (still remember you as \"Lizzy\"), my heartfelt sympathy to all of you. I remember your mom quite well from childhood days spent with Sharon, and I can still hear her voice. Ruthie was fun, patient, and kind...and, she was the one that taught me how to swim, at Green Oaks! Although my mom (Betty) passed away a few years back, the two of them reunited while living at Weinberg Terrace. It was a highlight for me to see your mom on my frequent visits. I\'m sure that they will be happy to see each other, once again.
