SAFYAN, FRIEDA.: Born July 10, 1920 in Pittsburgh leaves behind a loving family and hundreds of friennds because of her lifelong process of "keeping in touch" with those who matter to her. A prolific letter-writer, note-writer, and phone caller, Frieda made sure everyone knew that they were important to her...and she constantly urged them to keep their connection with her. Described as "so kind," "sweet," and "a lovely person," her toughness equaled her sensitivity. She would speak up and stand up for what she needed and for what she believed. Directness was her preferred mode of speech and action. Frieda has been a lynchpin in the life of residents of Riverview Towers in Squirrel Hill where she has resided since 2005. Frieda was predeceased by Nate (Nathan), her husband of 64 years in 2005, and her daughter, Marilyn Sue Safyan (Saf) Block in 2001. She is survived by her son, Paul (Linda), her granddaughters Suzanne Block, and Hayley (Brian) Block and her grandson Brian (Katie) and their two children, her great grandchildren, Mike and Emily Safyan. She is also a revered aunt to Steve Stone, Sam (Tomisita) Jacubowitz, Elaine (Roy) Million, Lisa (Chuck) Segada, Anna (Victor) Maffee, and Joel (Rebecca) Diamond. Her great nieces and nephews include Josh and Elizabeth, Sara, Chelsea, Jordan, and Jessica, Hannah, Elliot and Abby. Great-great nieces and nephews Alivia, Saqarra and Seyanna, Averie Greata, Dylan, and Rylan. Graveside Services and Interment will be held Monday, December 5, 2016 at 2 PM at Temple Sinai Memorial Park. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday December 11, 2016 at 2 PM at Riverview Towers, 52 Garetta Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15217. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association , P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693. Arrangements entrusted to Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., family owned and operated. www.schugar.com
