Jeanne France Abele Rudov, born on January 10, 1941, passed peacefully in her sleep in the home she shared with her beloved husband Melvin on December 25, 2018. Jeanne was raised in Johnstown, PA and was predeceased in her passing by her parents, Ann E. “Anna” (Oswald) Abele and Francis Joseph Abele, steelworker, and sisters, Liz (Abele) Keelan and Berdina (Abele) Brant. Jeanne is survived by her beloved husband of over 30 years, Dr. Melvin H. Rudov; her children, David Rudov, Cornell (Susan) Rudov, and Ted (Lynne) Rudov; and her grandchildren, Daniel, Lindsey, and Roxanne Rudov. The family would like to thank her caregivers Alice, Kaiste, Gee, Terri and Cheryl for their remarkable devotion and love for Jeanne over the years.  Jeanne fulfilled many educational, professional, and personal goals during her lifetime. Jeanne moved to Pittsburgh, PA, where she studied at the University of Pittsburgh. Jeanne earned her Masters of Public Health, a degree that was the impetus for many professional achievements, such as her work at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh and the American Institutes for Research, where she met her husband, Melvin. Jeanne will be remembered for her generosity, humor, unrelenting wit, and love for her family, friends, and community. She was a generous philanthropist, leader, and benefactor to art organizations in the Pittsburgh area, such as the Society for Contemporary Craft and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Jeanne was a talented artist herself; she loved to collect and create. Jeanne’s grandchildren will always remember how she spent months each year creating each of their Halloween costumes by hand. Jeanne also loved to travel. She and Mel traveled the world together, from Morocco to China to all over South America. The many pieces of art that they collected from their travels across the globe still adorn their home. A memorial service for Jeanne will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside. Family visitation will be held at 11 am, followed by a service at 12 pm. All are welcome to attend. Please send donations, rather than flowers, to one of Jeanne’s favorite organizations: Contemporary Craft: https://contemporarycraft.org/support/ or the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra: https://pittsburghsymphony.org/donate/form
