Stanley S. Barish

STANLEY S. BARISH: Stanley passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Shirley Jean Barish; loving father of Nancy Moeller (Thomas Moeller), Richard Barish, and Steven Barish; loving grandfather and Papa of Michael Moeller (Indra Moeller); loving great-grandfather of Ashton and Anthony, and loving brother-in-law of Gerald and Barbara Chotiner. He is also survived by many caring nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the son of the late Michael and Ottilie Barish, and brother of the late Ruth Leach and the late William Barish. 

Stanley enjoyed 79 years of marriage to Shirley. They sailed through life together – he was an avid sailor and always ready with a pun. He served as a Lieutenant (j.g.) in the U. S. Navy aboard LST 325 on D-Day 1944 during WWII. His photography hobby at the time led to his photos of the war being accepted by the Library of Congress and Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. Stan was a Squirrel Hill merchant for many years, owner of The Fotoshop. His kindness and caring will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 11:45 AM. Visitation forty-five minutes prior to service, (11 AM - 11:45 AM). Interment Private.

Condolences

I am very sorry to hear about the passing of Stanley. I am the oldest son of Gary Schaffel, Stan's partner in the Foto Shops. Although I have lived in Los Angeles for 50 years, I happened to be in :Pittsburgh and at the Foto Shop the day that it closed forever in, I believe, 2005, and met Stan as they were chosing up. He and my father Milt always had a great business and personal relationship, and I will always remember him.

To the Barish Family Your father’s obituary was forwarded to me by my remaining Pittsburgh family. My father, Milton Schaffel, was Stan’s partner at the Fotoshop for many years before we moved to Florida. As miracles happen, we were on a visit to Pittsburgh on the very last day of business of the Fotoshop. We were able to retrieve mementos of our fathers’ business history.
