Fern was special to our family as well as to me personally. All 3 of my children went to Beth Shalom preschool when she was principal -- we were there during the fire as well, My mother died 2 weeks before the birth of my youngest child (we were close and I was devastated and didn\'t know how I was going to get through it), and when I brought the baby with me to preschool pick-up, Fern said something to me that helped me through my grief (when no one else could get through to me) and I want to share it with the family. Fern said, \"The greatest joy that a child can give to a parent is to be happy. Your mother wouldn\'t want you to be sad for this baby.\" Then she hugged me tight and told me I would be ok. And while I still miss my mom every single day still - 29 years later, I ALWAYS remember these wise words of your mom. Thank you for sharing her with us for all these years.
