Dr. Michael E. Wald
June 26, 1938 - August 23, 2025

DR. MICHAEL E. WALD, MD: 87, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karen Silvasy Wald of Pittsburgh; sons David Wald of Pittsburgh, Noah Wald of Novato, CA; and Bruce (Lori) Wald of California, PA, and Margi Wald of Oakland, CA, whose mother was the late Gloria L. Wald. Also surviving are sister-in-law Deborah Silvasy of Ashtabula, Ohio, brother-in-law George Silvasy of Kingsville, Ohio, and nieces Michelle Sheldon and Sarah Silvasy. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Ben and Mae Wald, and his older brother, the late Noah Wald. Born on June 26, 1938, Michael lived much of his life in Pittsburgh and was a graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School, Washington and Jefferson College, and the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, Class of 1963. A veteran of the U.S. Navy who served as a Ship Medic and achieved the rank of Lieutenant, Dr. Wald returned to his cherished hometown of Pittsburgh in 1969 after a two-year residency in Yonkers, NY. With a deep understanding of internal medicine, pulmonology, and cutting-edge knowledge, Michael practiced medicine for nearly 60 years, mostly in Pittsburgh but also in St. Petersburg, FL, The Villages, FL, and the Monongahela Valley. A gifted orator, he also gave numerous medical lectures and taught part-time at the University of Pittsburgh's Medical School. Dr. Wald's unwavering passion for healthcare, along with his affable, straightforward personality, made his practice a popular beacon of expertise and compassion to his patients and in the community. His desire for excellence was also evident away from the workplace as he strived for quality in any endeavor, from remodeling a basement, tiling a floor, and even sounding the shofar. He was an immensely respected, trusted physician, as well as a loyal friend to many and an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. Services and Interment will be Private.
