STANLEY MAHARAM: 72, son of Bess and Aaron Maharam (z'l), passed away on November 10th, the 19th of Cheshvan, of complications from Parkinson's Disease.
Stanley was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He spent his summers at Camp Ramah in Canada growing up, where he made lifelong friends and developed a deep love and appreciation for Jewish summer camp. A swimmer and French horn player through high school, he graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School and attended Oberlin College. There, he helped establish the Kosher food co-op and watched the Steelers win the Super Bowl via a masterfully rigged up television of which he remained proud for years.
After college, Stanley moved to Israel where he joined the army and trained as a welder and a tank driver. It was in Israel that he met his wife Cherie (Lewin) on Yom Ha'Atzmaut in 1977. The two ultimately made their way back to Pittsburgh, where Stanley received his MBA at the University of Pittsburgh. He began working in banking and had a long and successful banking career, eventually becoming a Senior Vice President at Citizens Bank. But this wasn't the work he was most proud of; that honor was reserved for his volunteer work. He volunteered for the Rainbow Kitchen and the Hebrew Free Loan Association and chaired the Board of Directors of Bridgeway Capital. He also served on the Board of Directors at Beth Shalom Congregation, where his family has been members for over 70 years and both of his daughters had their B'not Mitzvah. Beth Shalom awarded him the Young Leadership Award in 1996 and the Nathan E Snader Distinguished Service Award in 2004.
Stanley was known for his dry wit, directness, generosity, and intolerance for empty rhetoric. He enjoyed playing golf and was a solidly average player. While his ability to communicate verbally was taken from him by Parkinson's disease, he was still able to give a side eye to his trainer who jokingly requested a line of credit from him just before he passed away.
In addition to Cherie, Stanley is survived by his two daughters Alexis and Edie (Matt Styen), two grandchildren, Morgan and Clayton Styen, his older brother David (Janet), niece Jill (Josh Zucker) and nephew Jason, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Ave., Shadyside on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at 11 AM. NO Prior Visitation. Interment Homewood Cemetery.
His family thanks Linda Gordon and the staff at the JAA Ahava Memory Care Center who helped us care for him during his final years. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to a charity meaningful to you. Some of his favorites were Beth Shalom Pittsburgh, Rainbow Kitchen, The Michael J Fox Foundation, or Camp Ramah in Canada. www.schugar.com

Stanley was a diamond in the lending world. His insight was solid while his wit kept the room light so one could navigate through the roughs. It never worked out to get him to play Oakland Hills, but I often joked with him that he was my invaluable caddy to get me through loan committee. Appreciate him for helping me get out of some roughs and behind me for the hard and easy putts. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

So sorry about Stan. We went to high school together, but my fondest memory of Stan was Little League. We were on the Tartans together and won the 14th Ward Championship. Stan was a very able 2xnd baseman. When I would see him occasionally, we would always have fun reminiscing. Really great guy. Will miss him.

Remembering your patience, dry wit, and forgiveness during the monthly exception report meetings . You always gave easy solutions for the most difficult to clear. Rest in peace Stan.

Stanley was a unicorn. Special. While I haven’t seen him in many years I remember swim team and lunches in the locker room. The jcc. And how smart he was. He was a good person. A good friend. He led a great life and helped many others along the way. He will be missed.

Stanley’s dry wit always made me laugh. I worked with him at Citizens for a lot of years. I always called him Stanley Sweetie. After he retired, we would meet at the Milkshake Factory until his illness became too much for him.

Stanley and I grew up together at Mellon. We shared many lunch conversations over the years which I remember fondly. I valued Stanley's intellect, his sense of humor, and his commitment to faith and family. I was saddened to hear of his illness and passing but also celebrate a life well lived.
May his memory be a blessing.

I was fortunate that I had opportunities to work with Stan during his many years at Mellon. I knew when Stan came to see me in Legal he would have Mellon in the best position, and the other side would always lose. I enjoined our working together and very much will miss his dry wit, sense of what is right, interest in doing good deeds and friendship. Rest in peace, Stan, you were a good guy with a big heart.

Stan was an integral part of our corporate finance team at the Mellon Bank and we all enjoyed his quick wit and thoughtful conversation. Anyone who knew him will look back with joy and gratitude and hopefully those thoughts will provide some solace at this difficult time.
God bless you Stan.

I am very sorry to hear of Stan’s passing. He was a good man and I learned a lot from him during my time at Citizens Bank. He definitely was one in a million! I had to laugh at the obituary reference to his intolerance for empty rhetoric. That definitely was me when we would discuss a credit 😂. I would drive him crazy, at times, but I always walked away learning something new. May he rest in peace.

Stan and I worked together at Mellon / Citizens Bank. He always made me smile and always had a comment, mostly kidding me, about something. He was good man, a great person to work with. For his family and others friends I am truly sorry for your loss.
