Vibrant, sharp and loving until the very end, Rosalyn Balk died Thursday, January 29, 2026. Defying the odds, battling cancers and a host of other ailments, Rosalyn lived a full, joyous life for 97 years.

Rosalyn was born in Pittsburgh. During the depression, she moved in with her large extended family in Mount Pleasant, PA; however, she lived her most important formative years in Pittsburgh's east end. Rosalyn was a graduate of Peabody High School and the University of Pittsburgh.

While working at Carnegie Library, Rosalyn was introduced to David Balk. They celebrated 65 years of blissful marriage before David's passing in 2019. Moving to Latrobe, PA early in their marriage, Rosalyn helped her husband run the Hollywood Shop, a ladies' and children's clothing store, for 20 years. She also was an integral part of Latrobe's Beth Israel congregation, serving many roles such as sisterhood president.

Rosalyn showed her love through caring and FOOD. Her reputation as an excellent cook and baker was unmatched. Always there to lend a helping hand, Rosalyn embraced everyone with a warm, welcoming home, unconditional love and acceptance. Above all, Rosalyn was an extremely open and approachable person with an empathetic ear. She will be truly missed.

Rosalyn is survived by her children Ellen, Brian (Carol) and Harold (Ingrid). She is also survived by her four grandchildren Dalya, Ellie, Macey and Jessica, and 20 plus nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Beth El Congregation of the South Hills, 1900 Cochran Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15220 on Sunday, February 1st, at 12:30.
