Robert Jay Zavos, 81, died peacefully of natural causes at his home in Bradenton, Florida.
Robert Zavos was born in Pittsburgh, PA in May of 1945. He graduated from Alderdice High School and began studies at the University of Pittsburgh in the Physics Program. Following his graduation, he enrolled in an MBA program at the University of Pittsburgh. Shortly after, he joined the US Army Artillery Division at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was later stationed at Fort Ord, California to continue missile testing. He met his soon to be wife, Sara Getzin while stationed at Fort Ord. They were married in 1970. Robert was deployed to South Korea during the Vietnam War, and served near the border of North Korea at a missile site. Following his discharge, he began to work at Aetna Life and Casualty Company. Robert decided to move the family of Sara, daughter, Lisa, and son, Kenneth to Dearborn, Michigan where he worked at the Ford Motor Company. Pittsburgh was always in his sight when he joined Westinghouse Corporation. By then, he was adept as a computer system manager.
Retirement in 2000 found him happily enjoying sailing at Lake Arthur with Sara as his crew of a Flying Scot sailboat. The pair sailed for 20 years, before later moving to Odenton, Maryland, and Bradenton, Florida.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sara (Getzin) Zavos, two children: Lisa and Kenneth, as well as a grandson, Aaron Elliott.
Services were privately held with immediate family at Homewood Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
