Carmela Miller

CARMELA MILLER: Age 89, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026.

Born on April 29, 1937, in New Kensington PA, Carmela was the beloved daughter of Andrew Zappala and Adalgisa Navari. She lived a life defined by love, family, service, compassion and resilience. Her warmth, caring spirit and generosity touched the lives of all who knew her.

Family was the center of Carmela's world. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend who found her greatest joy in spending time with those dear to her heart.

Carmela was formerly married to Robert Gagne, with whom she had shared three beloved children. She later shared many happy years with her husband, Donald Miller, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her loving children, Michael Gagne, Annette Grazioso (Guy), and Stephen Gagne (Carrie), her beloved sister, Andreina Panion, her cherished grandchildren, Andrew (Kathryn) Gagne, Evan Gagne, Anthony Grazioso, Mia Grazioso, Stephanie Gagne, Joseph Gagne, Drew Gagne and Grace Gagne, and her cherished great grandchildren Clara Gagne.

She also leaves behind her dear cousin Paula Pedicone (Carmen), and her beloved nephews and niece, Tommy Panion, Dana (Brian) Battle and Frank Panion all of whom hold a special place in her heart along with many other family members and treasured friends.

For more than 20 years, Carmela worked as a secretary for the PA attorney generals office, a position she truly enjoyed. She took great pride in her work, valued her colleagues, and earned the respect of those around her through her hard work and dedication.

Carmela remained actively involved in her community. She served as treasurer for her condominium homeowners association and was deeply involved with the South Hills women's republican group.

Carmela was an amazing cook and loved to prepare food for those she loved. Some of her signature dishes were lasagna, stuffed shells, pasta fagioli among others. Many of her happiest moments were spent bringing those she loved around the table.

Those who knew Carmela will remember her as a remarkably positive person and strong spirit. One of her expressions was "The world is your oyster". These words reflected her belief in opportunity and making the most of life. She encouraged her family to approach life with confidence, hard work and resilience.

While her family mourns her passing, they will celebrate her and always cherish the wonderful memories and life lessons that she inspired upon them. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Graveside Service and Interment will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 12 Noon at B'Nai Israel Cemetery.
