SALLY EISENSTAT LEBOWITZ: Sally, age 91, lover of ice cream, bagels, books, trees, flowers, friends in abundance, and her cherished family, died on September 27, 2026, in Pittsburgh, PA.

Born August 5, 1935 to Sam and Dora Eisenstat, Sally was the second of three sisters. In their final years as a trio, the sisters were devoted to their Friday coffee/wine chats from opposite sides of the world.

Sally grew up in Wilmington, DE and graduated from Temple University with a degree in dental hygiene. In November 1958, she married her beloved Milton Lebowitz, whom she met on a blind date in June. (They just knew; he was the dearest man she ever met.) She and Milton raised David and Larry, moving a few times before settling in Mt. Lebanon, where she was the number one fan at her sons' football, baseball, and basketball games.

Vibrant and open to the world, Sally wore many hats. She worked for years as a dental hygienist, known for entertaining her patients in their chairs and putting them at ease. You could always count on her for a Stim-U-Dent (superior to the toothpick) in her purse. After quitting cigarettes using the Smokenders program, Sally was so inspired she bought a franchise so she could help others do the same. She signed up to become a hospice volunteer because she was moved to contribute to people's end of life care. She wrote a book about that experience, called "Friend of the Family," which reads exactly like she talks and is proudly displayed in the library of Friendship Village, where she spent her final years.

Anyone who knew Sally knows how easy and rewarding it was to love her. She made "girlfriends" everywhere she went, and the friendships lasted for decades. She formed close bonds across her extensive family tree. The friends, nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren who crossed the hall, country and globe to visit her are testaments to her magnetism, singularity, and warm, open heart.

Sally held court. She doled out catchphrases, truisms, and candor ("well, that's the truth"). Her mirth was matched only by her gratitude. "How did I get so lucky?" she often said in wonderment.

She is survived by her sons, David (Audrey) Lebowitz and Larry (Lynn) Lebowitz; grandchildren, Leah (Jon), Daniel (Valery), Jake, Amy (Michael), Alyssa, and Ben along with 11 great grandchildren; and sister Ruthie (Sheldon) Weinstein. She is also survived by her newest chosen family at Friendship Village and the caretakers who looked after her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Milton Lebowitz; her sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Martin Yalisove; and her parents, Sam and Dora (nee Tex) Eisenstat.

Services at Temple Emanuel of South Hills, 1250 Bower Hill Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15243, on Monday, September 28, 2026 at 2:30 PM. Visitation 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM. Interment Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Temple Emanuel section. The service will be live-streamed by Temple Emanuel.
