Geanne Michelle Thompson
July 10, 1948 - September 28, 2026

Geanne was born at Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on July 10, 1948, and grew up in Ford City. The cherished daughter of Samuel and Ruth Friedland, she was raised in a household whose values guided her throughout a life marked by love, devotion, and purpose. Her parents preceded her in death, but the legacy of familial love they created remained central to Geanne's life.

A proud 1966 graduate of Ford City High School, Geanne pursued her passion for nursing at the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned both a BSN and an MN in Nursing Care of Children. She later built a distinguished career at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, working there from 1991 until her retirement in 2013. As a Special Program Analyst, she served as a liaison to the Pennsylvania Insurance Department.

On July 12, 1981, Geanne married the love of her life, Richard Dean Thompson, who remained her devoted companion for over 45 years. She was a loving mother to Leah and Sam and an unwavering supporter of their education, always ready to help with homework and encourage their academic pursuits. Her five grandchildren, Anya and Enzo, children of Leah and Anthony, and Arya, Shiloh, and Noam, children of Samuel and Misha, were a treasured part of Geanne's life and brought her much happiness.

Geanne was not only a dedicated family woman but also a person of diverse interests. She found joy in crafts, bicycling, dancing, and traveling, activities that reflected her zest for life and her desire to explore the world around her. Other favorite pastimes she enjoyed were walking her dogs or reading a good book. Her Jewish heritage and faith were also important to her, and she was honored to celebrate her bat mitzvah in June 2004.

Geanne is survived by her beloved husband, Richard Dean Thompson, her daughter, Leah, and her husband, Anthony, her son Samuel, and his wife, Misha, her five grandchildren, and her brother Nathan, and his wife, Ilene. Geanne's legacy is one of love, resilience, and faith.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Geanne's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to her heart.

The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Geanne's remarkable life at Ralph Schugar Chapel, located at 5509 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 12 Noon. Visitation one hour prior to services (11 AM - 12 Noon). Interment Shaare Torah Cemetery.
