HOLBER, D.D.S. DR. NATHAN WILLIAM "ACE" : On Thursday, January 1, 2015, age 95; Beloved husband of the late Jean Diamond Holber for 57 years. Loving father of Stephen W. (Ida) Holber, Dr. Thomas S. (Linda Safyan) Holber, and the late Richard A. Holber. Brother of the Gertrude (late Carl) Epstein, the late Alan Holber and Edith Goldberg. Brother-in-law of Shirley Holber. Adoring grandfather of Sabina, Benjamin, Julia, Jessica and Andrea Holber. Great grandfather to Miriam and Asa. The son of Samuel and Rose, Dr. Holber was born in Malden, Massachusetts on September 1,1919. He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Illinois and, in 1945, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine.  He served as a 1st Lieutenant and Dental Officer in Korea in 1946 and 1947.  Upon his return, he opened a dental office in Penn Hills where he practiced for fifty years. His son Thomas joined him in 1984. Their practice, now in its 67th year, continues to serve multiple generations of families in the eastern suburbs. Affectionately known as "Doc" by his office staff, his patients were like family and he loved discussing their lives, telling stories and exchanging a good joke. Out of the office, Ace was an avid golfer who looked forward to being with his foursomes at Duquesne Golf Club.  For over five decades, he enjoyed social gatherings with his wife Jean at the historic Concordia Club. They were members of Rodef Shalom Congregation. Active and energetic almost until the very end, Ace could frequently be seen walking his Dandie Dinmont terriers in his Squirrel Hill neighborhood. An enthusiastic grandfather who never missed a birthday or dance recital, he was always interested in the activities and took pride in the accomplishments of his grandchildren.  He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered for his energy, optimism, cheerful demeanor, youthful good looks, warmth, humor and the wise, witty observations on life he loved to share. Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Sunday at 11 AM. Visitation one hour prior to services (10 - 11 AM). Interment West View Cemetery of Rodef Shalom Congregation. www.schugar.com

Dear Steve, I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. What a nice man he was. He always greeted me with such warmth and a great smile, with his beloved Tutu by his side looking for a tummy rub. He always spoke of his family with such great pride. My heart goes out to you and your family at this sad time. Ellie Platt Werner
