Samuel E. Lewis
April 2, 2015

LEWIS, SAMUEL E.: With sadness, we announce the death of Samuel E. Lewis, 84, on Thursday April 2, 2015 of cardiac arrest at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Sam courageously and without complaint lived with type one diabetes for fifty years. Sam is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carol Tobin Lewis. His family includes his children Sherri Polen and her husband Dean of St. Clairsville, Ohio, Neil Lewis of Pittsburgh, David Lewis and his wife Amy of Wexford, step children David Tobin and his wife Linda of Pittsburgh, Gregg Tobin and his wife Ruth of Trabuco Canyon, CA, grandchildren Kelley and John Polen, Max and Zach Lewis, Rachel and Joshua Tobin, and sister, Bernice Konick Goldberg of Bay Harbor Island, Florida. Sam was a graduate of Duquesne University and a member of Rodef Shalom Congregation. He served as an officer in the air force. The day after Sam's discharge from the military, he began his career in the family business, Lewis Brothers and Son's Restaurant Supply Company. Sam spent the next fifty years there until his retirement in 2007. Sam's quiet, low key approach as a salesman enabled him to build a following of clients among the finest restaurants, hotels, city and country clubs, executive dining rooms, hospitals, schools and institutions during the era of gracious living and elegant dining. We will miss Sam's pleasant demeanor, good looks and gracious manner. Services and interment PRIVATE. Friends are invited to visit the family at the Lewis Residence on Tuesday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 8. Donations in Sam's memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Western PA Chapter, 501 Martindale Street, Suite 670, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 or a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements entrusted to Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc.
